We were approached by a company called Mixed Immersion to create interactive 3D sound for a football boot for Inition and Adidas. We worked alongside several other companies who were in charge of the visual and haptic side of the installation. The result was the world’s first interactive football boot and the world’s first 3D audio controller which included haptic . We used granular synthesis as the ideally morphable synthesis technique and designed the software in Max MSP using OSC to sync with Unity for the visuals. Stroke sensors, twist sensors as well as an accelerometer turned the boot into an extraordinary 3D audio device; the sound changed direction depending on where you pointed the boot as well as altering the sound. A proximity sensor also effected the ‘approach’ sound. The project was based on our work with the leap motion.
